He told us how he cannot fast during Ramadan and shared his advice as a Muslim living with the condition: “I do not fast as I’m on insulin and do not feel it would be safe to fast. I give the equivalent of two meals a day for the 30 days of Ramadan to a charity that feeds the poor.

Diabetes and fasting: Can I fast during Ramadan?
It's safe sometimes. Some people may choose to not eat for a period of time (fast) for religious reasons, such as from dawn to sunset during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. Your doctor may suggest that you avoid fasting if you're at high risk of complications. He or she will likely explain potential risks of complications such as low or high blood sugar and dehydration.
