Located in Orem, Utah, Center for Change provides 24 hour, 7 day a week diabulimia treatment, nursing, and dietary care which moves patients from unstable blood sugars that are generated by their eating disorder, through the re-feeding process into stable blood sugars and towards a healthy and individualized weight range.   In addition to nursing staff, we have physicians and nurse practitioners who evaluate patients consistently and provide medical interventions related to their specific needs. Center for Change has a Certified Diabetic Educator on staff that performs weekly assessments for each patient with diabetes.  The CDE is also available for consultation with the other medical team members.  Collaboration and consultation occurs on a weekly basis with outside medical specialists, such as the patient’s endocrinologist, to ensure the best individualized care and treatment are provided for each unique patient.

Located in St. Louis Park, MN: The Melrose Center collaborates with International Diabetes Center at Park Nicollet Endocrinology to coordinate care. The  complexity of treating people struggling with the dual diagnosis of an eating disorder and type 1 diabetes is well understood by the Melrose expert team of psychologists, dietitians, doctors, nurses and other specialists who are highly-experienced with both issues. Specialized treatment for those with ED-DMT1 includes all regular programming for those recovering from an eating disorder, as well as diabetes education groups taught by a CDE, and meal groups which allows patients with type 1 diabetes to eat together and work on carbohydrate counting, portions and proper insulin doses with a certified diabetes educator. A care manager helps coordinate treatment, keeps communication consistent and answers questions for patients and families.

Nutrition is individualized on the spectrum from meal plans to intuitive eating depending on the person’s medical and behavioral needs. Most of the day patients are in groups with their individual therapist. We can help to clarify unique issues and teach patients how to deal with them effectively. It's not uncommon for patients to struggle with depression, anxiety or obsessive-compulsive symptoms before developing an eating disorder.
