Burden of Being A Burden   by Ruth Holmes

The cross you bare starts to resemble my face
It looks heavy
and where you once stood tall
You now barely move

My guilt has become a life of its own.
I don’t know how many more apologies it will take.
Before I can walk again.
Before life forgives me my sin.

But it is more than I have in me.
The plane carries my body to another city.
With each passing mile, I feel lifted,
Light from the burden of being a burden.

The tears start to fall more irregularly.
Once again I can breathe.
I can’t apologize anymore.
The life I lead is just that.

My life, my cross to bare.
I don’t know how you got roped in.
The knots are no longer tied.
My apologies were not lightening

Your load; they were weighing you
Down but now, there are no more sorry’s
To be said, and tonight we are ,
Light from the flames of the burden
The burden of being a burden.
